THIS IS
ELECTION YEAR IN ALABAMA
It happens once every four years. We have an opportunity to select
our government leaders here in Alabama for the next four years. Stated
another way, this is an election year.
WHAT EXACTLY DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
It means this is our chance to make contributions to support our friends
who we would like to serve as leaders in our state. Alabama law
only allows political contributions to our state leaders during very
specific times every four years and that time is now.
Other than our
direct lobbying effort this is the only chance we have to
support those candidates who support us. And it is an
extremely important part of what we do as an association!
And, while some who see this may not be members of TPCA or they may even
have their own lobbyist, this is a way for you to make a contribution to
support "our industry" and we need your help and support also. For
those who have their own lobbyist, the contributions you make to this
cause can be recognized both by you as an individual company and, much
more importantly it allows us to show broader support from the entire
industry as a group -- which is critical.
WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP TODAY
On January 21, 2010
your Board of Directors supported a
contribution plan that we believe is fair to all of our members and
which helps us meet our contribution goals.
We are asking each member to commit to a contribution that is based on
$175 per store they operate with a cap on the number of stores at 25.
This works out to less than $45 per store a year for the four year cycle. It
is probably the best $45 you will ever spend to keep your store doors open!
If you look around at most states, the industry has been decimated by
our adversaries. We, on the other hand, are going into our tenth
year with absolutely no negative legislation enacted against us.
Even more incredible, we have not had one single bill introduced so far
in this legislative session and, further, we did not have any
legislation introduced during the last legislative session! In the
toxic environment we operate in this is unprecedented. But
remember, this clearly does not happen by accident. A lot of hard
work has been done by many to create this accomplishment.
