BORROW SMART SPONSORS THE ALABAMA BLACK CAUCUS
AGAIN IN 2009
What a great event -- third year in a
row!
October 12, 2009
THE
EVENT
The Alabama Black Caucus held their annual meeting on October
1st at the Grand Hotel in beautiful Point Clear, Alabama.
Caucus members are black legislators from both
houses of the Alabama Legislature. The event was, for the
most part, a two day event and we co-sponsored the kick-off
reception this year on the first day of the event. So, we
had top billing.
WHO ATTENDED
A large number of caucus members made the trip. It
turns out there were over 14 legislators who attended, most all
in significant leadership positions in the Alabama Legislature. With spouses,
friends and others there were well over 100 in attendance.
Those in attendance from Borrow Smart were, Max Wood,
President of Borrow Smart, Michael Sullivan
with the Lobbyist Group; Danielle Kimbrough, Big Communications;
Bill Smith, Easy Money; Frank Evans, Charles Hunter, Patrick
Taylor, Chris Barnett, Ben Paramore, Darren Lewis and Heather Sellers with The Money
Store; Meredith Broyles with Check Into Cash and
Richard Mayhall with Mayhall Enterprises.
WHAT WE DID
Much like the event in prior years, this was a
fun event for all and so incredibly successful for Borrow Smart. If we had to use only a few words
to describe it, "we just had fun and renewed many old
friendships." This year we co-sponsored the reception and made
a presentation during the event. Our Ipod door prize
giveaways have become legendary and this year was no
different. See the picture narrative below for a first
hand "look" at what happened. If we did not accomplish
anything else (which is certainly not the case) this event alone would have been worth the entire
effort.
Everyone in the room got to know the name Borrow Smart Alabama
up close and personal,
in a fun and positive way! And, at the first meeting
session of the next day the legislators all had a complete
packet of Borrow Smart materials at their seats when they
arrived for their meeting -- just to be sure they didn't
forget us.

WHAT WE ACCOMPLISHED
As you can see from the photo
narrative above this is just a lot of fun. We make new
friends and see old friends
all at the same time. It is so much more fruitful to work with
people you know and respect. We believe we have taken a
step in the right direction for our industry and our customers by hosting and attending this
meeting.
As you know, one of the primary reasons we exist is to develop
programs that will improve the use of our services by our
customers. And many of our customers are constituents of
the caucus members. This event will make that task much easier and
so much more
productive.
WE OWE
Certainly, we owe
Michael Sullivan, Big Communications (Robin Oliver and Danielle
Kimbrough) and Heather Sellers (The Money Store) a very big
"THANK YOU" for helping us to pull this off so successfully
again this year. This was Michael Sullivan's idea from the beginning and he
made all the right contacts to make it happen. Big provided us with
professionally prepared materials for handouts, presentations
and helped us pull the Ipod giveaway off with great success and
Heather helped in the planning and on the ground coordination.
CONCLUSION
So, all-in-all, we were well received by the caucus
members again this year for the third year in a row. They were genuinely
appreciative of our
sponsorship and told us so on many occasions throughout the
meeting.
Needless to say, this is probably one of most significant events
any of our associations in Alabama (Modern Financial, TPCA and CFL) hosts. We know that we must seal the
relationships at the grass-roots with those who could easily become our
adversaries. We can't wait until the next Black Caucus
meeting!
The Alabama Black Caucus members now
know our members by name and they know us on a personal basis.
That can only help our industry, and in particular, our Borrow Smart members
and customers!
